The Malawian Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services confirmed an arrest of two Nepalese nationals at Songwe Border Post for illegal entry into Malawi on 6 December 2025.
The Malawian authorities revealed these young men were found in possession of invalid travel documents and entered the country in the side of Tanzania,and when were intercepted were heading to Lilongwe.
"The two, identified as Prakash Bahadur Saru (23) and Roshan Chidi (24), were also found in possession of fake visa approval letters.
"Upon entering Malawi, they bypassed formal border entry procedures and were later intercepted three kilometres inside the country by officers who were conducting foot patrols along Malawi, Tanzania borderline.
The duo reportedly intended to proceed to Lilongwe by securing a lift from motorists," said the Malawian department responsible for immigration.
The Malawian authorities confirmed that the illegal immigrants are detained in the local police station and are expected to appear before court, and the authorities also warned foreign nationals to follow proper channels to enter in the country.
"The suspects are currently being held at Karonga Police Station as investigations continue to establish their motive for entering Malawi illegally. Once investigations are concluded, they will be taken to court to stand trial.
In this regard, the Department is reminding all foreign nationals intending to enter Malawi to use designated legal entry channels. The use of fake visa approval letters and any form of illegal entry will result in immediate denial of entry, detention, and prosecution," concluded the Malawian department.
